The GLDN Rule of Giving Back
There’s potential (and a responsibility) to do great things as you grow
One of the best moments of my life was when I realized I’d been building a business that had the potential to make a real difference. Not just the way I’d been doing it before - by making special pieces that brought happiness - but by using the potential of a brand to really stand for something. GLDN is more than just a business - it’s an opportunity to create the change I believe the world needs.
— Chrissy Lavdovsky, Founder
We’re striving to create the change we want to see in the world in a variety of ways, including giving back to causes that our employees and customers feel particularly passionate about.
Our philosophy stems from three core beliefs on business:
To be a great company, your purpose must go beyond profit.
The influence gained as you grow should be seen as an opportunity for greater contribution.
Success should measured by positive impact and making the world a better place.
Giving a portion of our profits and 10 hours of employee time to causes that count
A portion of profits from sales on our website are set aside to support causes we believe in. Throughout each year, we find many opportunities for giving back, including our jewelry collections and designs that sponsor some incredible nonprofits, fundraising events, and special calendar days.
COLLECTIONS + PIECES
La Femme Collection: 50-100% of Profits
Care.org: 50% of profits from most of our La Femme Collection are donated to CARE, a global leader within a worldwide movement dedicated to ending poverty, starting with the empowerment of women. They put women and girls in the center because we know that we cannot overcome poverty until all people have equal rights and opportunities.
National Immigration Law Center: In honor of the inseparable love between family and the sacrifices immigrants make to seek better lives for themselves and their children, 100% profits from the Toujours necklace from our La Femme Collection are donated to this organization. We admire and are proud to support their fight for immigrants’ rights through impact litigation, policy analysis and advocacy, strategic communications and education.
Hand Gestures Collection: 10% of Profits
The Brain Research Foundation: This goal of this organization is to make a positive difference in the lives of children, adolescents, and adults who are touched by neurological disorders. They believe a broad scope of research to gain understanding of how the human brain functions and how the nervous system develops throughout life is the best way to reach it.
2018 Black Friday - The California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Relief Fund supports intermediate and long-term recovery efforts for major California wildfires, as well as preparedness efforts.
2018 International Women’s Day - Malala Fund is working for a world where every girl can learn and lead without fear championing every girl’s right to 12 years of free, safe, quality education.
2017 International Women’s Day - Skagit Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Services: Skagit DVSAS works to end domestic violence and sexual assault in our community through empowerment, advocacy, education, awareness and action for social change.
Annual NW Kidney Centers Gala - Northwest Kidney Centers is a community-based, nonprofit organization with a mission to promote the optimal health, quality of life and independence of people with kidney disease through patient care, education and research. One of GLDN’s ultra badass ladies is a kidney recipient, so this is a cause particularly close to her heart - literally.
DVSAS: Hosted a shop-wide drive for donated items to our local Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services Center. We also adopted a room at the shelter and a team of volunteers dedicated a weekend to redecorating the space into a soothing safe haven for future residents.
The Northwest Organization for Animal Help: A team of volunteers dedicated time to cleaning and helping out at the NOAH Center. This organization is dedicated to stopping the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable, and treatable homeless dogs and cats.
Have a Heart Run: Proceeds from this annual event benefit Community Action of Skagit County as we walk alongside our community members on their path out of poverty.
Community Action of Skagit County: Many of our employees have contributed their volunteer hours to this local organization, both by assisting at their Food Distribution Center and by participating in their Have a Heart Run.
Just as you've supported us, we want to support the causes that have impacted you. We choose charities to donate to on an annual basis and love to support organizations that are important to our employees and customers.
If you have a cause you are particularly inspired to support, fill out this form or shoot us an email with a little about the organization and the story of why it matters to you. If you are requesting a gift-in-kind for a nonprofit event, please submit at least 30 days before the event date. If you are requesting a monetary donation for next year, please submit 180 days before the end of this year.
