The GLDN Rule of Giving Back
There’s potential (and a responsibility) to do great things as you grow
One of the best moments of my life was when I realized I’d been building a business that had the potential to make a real difference. Not just the way I’d been doing it before - by making special pieces that brought happiness - but by using the potential of a brand to really stand for something. GLDN is more than just a business - it’s an opportunity to create the change I believe the world needs.
— Chrissy Lavdovsky, Founder
We’re striving to create the change we want to see in the world in a variety of ways, including giving back to causes that our employees and customers feel particularly passionate about.
Our philosophy stems from three core beliefs on business:
To be a great company, your purpose must go beyond profit.
The influence gained as you grow should be seen as an opportunity for greater contribution.
Success should measured by positive impact and making the world a better place.
Giving 10% of profits and 10 hours of employee time to causes that count
10% of profits from sales on our website are set aside to support causes we believe in. We also find additional occasions (such as International Women's Day and certain special collections) as further opportunities for giving back.
Beyond simply giving back financially, we also donate service time to organizations making an impact in our native Pacific Northwest. GLDN offers every employee 10 paid hours per year for time spent volunteering in our local community.
COLLECTIONS + PIECES
La Femme Collection: 50-100% of Profits
Care.org: 50% of profits from most of our La Femme Collection are donated to CARE, a global leader within a worldwide movement dedicated to ending poverty, starting with the empowerment of women. They put women and girls in the center because we know that we cannot overcome poverty until all people have equal rights and opportunities.
National Immigration Law Center: In honor of the inseparable love between family and the sacrifices immigrants make to seek better lives for themselves and their children, 100% profits from the Toujours necklace from our La Femme Collection are donated to this organization. We admire and are proud to support their fight for immigrants’ rights through impact litigation, policy analysis and advocacy, strategic communications and education.
Hand Gestures Collection: 10% of Profits
The Brain & Research Foundation: This impressive group funds cutting-edge research to find cures for mental illness. This Foundation is committed to advance discoveries that will lead to novel treatments and prevention of all neurological diseases.
International Women’s Day: 50% of all sales
2018 Malala Fund: Malala Fund is working for a world where every girl can learn and lead without fear. Founded in 2013, Malala Fund champions every girl’s right to 12 years of free, safe, quality education. They believe girls are the best investment in the future peace and prosperity of our world.
2017 Skagit Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Services: On International Women’s Day in 2017, when we announced we’d be donating half our proceeds for the day, our customers generously helped us to raise $4,500 for our local women’s shelter.
Northwest Kidney Centers Gala: GLDN donates money and jewelry to the Northwest Kidney Centers Discovery Gala each year, which benefits kidney research. One of GLDN’s ultra badass ladies is a kidney recipient, so this is a cause particularly close to her heart - literally.
DVSAS: Hosted a shop-wide drive for donated items to our local Domestic Violence and Assault Services Center. We also adopted a room at the shelter and a team of volunteers dedicated a weekend to redecorating the space into a soothing safe haven for future residents.
The NOAH Center: A team of volunteers dedicated time to cleaning and helping out at the center. The Northwest Organization for Animal Help dedicated to stopping the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable and treatable homeless dogs and cats.
Have a Heart Run: All proceeds from this local event benefit Community Action of Skagit County as we walk alongside our community members on their path out of poverty.
Community Action of Skagit County: Many of our employees have contributed their volunteer hours to this local organization, both by assisting at their Food Distribution Center and by participating in their 2017 Have a Heart Run.
Habitat for Humanity: Employees volunteered their time and skills to help build a house for a local family.
Suggest a Cause
Just as you've supported us, we want to support the causes that have impacted you. To us, that's the GLDN Rule. If you have a cause you are particularly inspired to support, shoot us an email with a little about the organization and the story of why it matters to you. We choose charities to donate to on an annual basis and love to support organizations that are important to our employees and customers.
Thank you for all your support and to everyone who is conscious about their purchases in general. Supporting small business and companies that operate with integrity makes a difference. The sum of all our collective choices results in a powerful force - and together, we can change the world.
