Independent Makers: Indie Undies
It’s an undeniable fact that a thing will feel a whole lot more special when you know how much love and care went into it.
INDIE UNDIES ft. GLDN Jewels
Thanks to the glorious maker movement, we have more opportunity than ever to choose products that are made with integrity. I’ve been especially obsessed over the last year with what I like to call “craft underwear” or "indie undies"; handcrafted and/or responsibly made undergarments from small independent makers.
My excitement for craft undies has resulted in a nice little collection. I've photographed some of my pieces here... of course accented with GLDN jewels.
FAVORITE CRAFT UNDERWEAR MAKERS:
As an avid supporter of the Maker Movement, I’m mindful to buy from small, independent makers whenever possible. Here are a few especially lovely craftsman of undergarments who offer pieces you'll feel great wearing and whose practices you'll feel proud to support.
If you love the idea of top quality, organic fabrics meeting modern, natural silhouettes and sustainable production, then Baserange is for you. The Danish/French brand started in 2012 and has a focus on using organic fabrics in "innovative ways that benefit both producer and consumer while minimizing environmental impact." Items are made exclusively in small towns with local family based factories with whom they've established caring relationships. Find out more about Baserange here.
THE NUDE LABEL
A Spanish brand offering a classic, effortless collection of undies that evoke a sense of true femininity. Their modern, minimal pieces accentuate a woman’s natural beauty while supporting her everyday life via the comfort of a fantastic fit. In 2014, the brand launched in Spain where it continues to be designed, sourced and constructed. Pieces are ethically made in Valencia by a local family factory near the designers studio. Nude Label strives to make women feel comfortable in their own skin, not what their body shape. A great interview with the designers can be found here.
Pansy offers comfortable, minimal and downright dreamy California made underwear. They also have a strong commitment to conscious, transparent production - which makes them doubly as awesome. The independent brand sources their fabric from a small company in North Carolina who grow and mill their own organic cotton. Pieces are then sewn together in a small factory just minutes from the designer’s home in the Bay Area. The line of simple basics is made even more exciting with a variety of interesting colors born from natural and fiber-reactive dyes. You can learn more about this inspiring maker here.
